August 16, 2017: First Day of School for Grades 1-5. Parent-teacher conferences for kindergarten.

August 17,  2017: Second Day of School. Kindergarten Half Class attend full day.
Boohoo breakfast to welcome kindergarten families; all welcome. 7:30-8:15am under the front awning.

August 18, 2017: Third Day of School. Kindergarten Half Class attend full day.

August 24: Teacher hospitality breakfast (PTA provides breakfast for teachers and staff)

SEPTEMBER

September 1, 2017: No School – Institute Day

September 4, 2017: No School – Labor Day

September 11, 2017: Grandparents’ or Special Persons’ Day.

Visitors are invited to have lunch with their student(s) and maybe even visit their classrooms. Visitors should check in in the main office first (door 1). Lunch is from 10:45-12:30, depending on the students’ grade. 

September 19, 2017: Open House, 6-7pm

The open house is a chance to visit your child’s classroom and the school in general. Also visit the library and consider adopting a book, where for $10, your child can see her or his name in it and be the first to check it out! 

September 19, 2017: PTA Meeting: 7-8pm; pizza and childcare provided

The agenda for this meeting includes approving the April meeting minutes, introducing current board members and soliciting committee members, and the following reports: Mrs. Coffman, 5th grade teacher, will talk about social emotional behavior and implementing our new Second Step curriculum into Robeson.  Mrs. Liay will discuss her plan for the enrichment program this year.  Dr. Susan Zola, Unit 4 Superintendent, will also speak at this meeting.

November 16, 2017: Picture Retake Day

November 20, 2017: Otis Spunkmeyer cookie pick-up. 2-6pm. 

It arrives FROZEN and needs to picked up & delivered that day. You will receive a list of customers & orders. If your student rides the bus home please make arrangements to pick up the cookies at school unless they can carry it on the bus with them. Likewise, if you are out of town, make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you, as there is nowhere to store it and orders not picked up will be left outside the school that evening.

November 22-24, 2017: No School; Thanksgiving Vacation

November 28, 2017: PTA Meeting, 6-7pm, pizza and babysitting provided.

In addition to the standard business items (approving minutes, etc.), we will hear reports on the Otis Spukmeyer Fundraiser and the Scholastic Book Fair. Our main presentations will be from Principal Gaines on ALICE (active shooter response training) and a presenter from Be Smart For Kids on gun safety. 

DECEMBER

December 7, 2017: Jupiter’s trip for Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser, 10am-1pm. Chaperones welcome.

In addition to the normal business items (committee, events, and club updates, budget, principal update, minutes approval), the main agenda item for this meeting is the instructional coach Mrs. Stine, who will walk attendees through a STEM project and a growth mindset exercise. Students are invited to participate in these activities.

In addition to regular business and announcements, at this meeting, we will provide the slate for next year’s PTA board. The main event will be Mrs. Stine presenting a STEM catapult challenge!

April 19, 2018: Multicultural Night, 5:30-8pm

Multicultural night is an opportunity to learn about different animals, artifacts, food, traditions, and more from different regions and cultures within and outside of the U.S., including from families here at Robeson and in the community. Look for communication about how to present materials, in addition to attending!

Can also make donations at the Community Blood Services of Illinois building (1408 W. University Avenue Urbana) between April 20 – March 1, 2018 (must mention group sponsor code 70958).

The last drive brought in 24 donations and a Life Saving Grant for $274 which will be used toward the 5th grade field trip buses to Chicago in May. Please help us reach a goal of 25 donors for this drive!

April 27, 2018: Running Club Illinois Marathon 5K. Race starts at 7:30pm

April 30 – May 4, 2018: Screen Free Week

Screen free week is a national initiative to get students involved in activities not related to television, computers, tablets, phones, and other digital devices. The PTA is sponsoring this initiative by: 1) Planning activities during screen free week (see attached calendar); and 2) Holding a drawing for prizes for students who are screen-free during this week.

Help your child record their successes on the tracker and return it after May 6th to your teacher. The PTA will hold a the drawing on May 10th and award prizes to students who were successful at being screen-free. Then join us for some of these activities:

Mon, April 30, 2:30-3:30pmIce cream in Robeson Park! The PTA will hand out ice cream treats in Robeson Park (just West of the school).

Tues, May 1, 4-6pmPutt-putt at Old Orchard Mini-Golf. Mention Robeson Elementary for group discount of $3.50 per game (regular $6). PTA will hand out a small favor afterward.

Wed, May 2, 3pm-7pmEnroll for next year! Robeson enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year will take place from 3-7pm, with kindergarten screening from 6-7pm. Stop by the PTA table to sign-up for the digital directory!

Thurs, May 3, 5:30-7:30pmFishing Derby at Colbert Park in Savoy. No experience or equipment required (but do bring your own rod & reel if you have them).

MAY

May 7 – 11, 2018: Teacher Appreciation Week

The PTA hosts hospitality events for Robeson faculty and staff every day during this week to show our appreciation for all they do for our families. Here are this week’s events:

Monday: Einstein’s bagels and coffee

Tuesday: Jupiter’s pizza for lunch

Wednesday/Thursday: chair massages 11am to 1pm

Thursday: Ice cream social at lunch

Friday: Mexican-themed lunch and raffle. Happy hour at Billy Baroos after school.

May 15, 2018: PTA meeting, 6-7pm, pizza and childcare provided

Make sure to come vote on next year’ PTA executive officers! And come sign up for committee chair roles, who are a part of the board. You may also sign up for next year’s directory and membership. The main event of the evening will be hearing from Mr. Reif from Jefferson Middle School. This is also a great opportunity to come meet next year’s incoming principal, Ms. Jessica Pitcher!
